Alexander the Corrector

Camden Passage is so narrow that it's impossible to get a full sense of your surroundings as you walk down it, which means that every time I'm there, I notice something looming above me that I hadn't noticed before. Today it was this plaque to Alexander Cruden, who lived (and died) in Camden Passage in the 18th century:

Known by the superhero-esque name "Alexander the Corrector," Cruden considered himself the enemy of incorrect spelling and grammar, and additionally sought to eradicate swearing in his attempt to guard society's morals. He would not be amused by the amount of swearing on UK television, that's for sure!
