Floating and Walking

Today we took to the Regent's Canal for a canalboat ride, but one with a bit of a twist. The event was put on by one of our favourite arts venues, the Camden Arts Centre, and when I found out about the event, I booked us two spots way back in June, even though we had no idea if we'd be around today or not. Good thing our flight to Berlin leaves tomorrow morning! Anyway, we showed up at the meeting point near King's Cross and boarded our boat.

It wasn't your typical narrowboat inside, with a definite cinematic theme,

which makes sense, considering there was a projector mounted on top of the boat!

Our ride through the 900 metres of Angel Tunnel was courtesy of artist Renee Vaughan--all we knew was that films would be shown on the interior of the dark tunnel, and the boatload of us sipped our drinks while we waited for our turn to enter the tunnel.

Here we go!

The films floating above and beside us in the shockingly dark tunnel were wonderful, both in sight and sound (the ticka-ticka-tickas of the projectors were like a leap back in time that echoed off the tunnel walls).

The floating images of walking that shone on the tunnel ceiling were a bit hypnotising,

and suddenly the light grew blindingly bright

and there we were, back in the real world again.
