Think On

We took the train over to Kensal Green this afternoon to wander through the cemetery and along the canal. Opened in 1883, Kensal Green Cemetery was London's first commercial cemetery, predating Highgate and Abney Park by seven and eight years, respectively. Although not quite as atmospheric as either (we may be biased, since it's right in our neighbourhood, but something about Abney Park still makes it one of our favourite places for a quiet stroll), we passed plenty of striking memorials as we walked through a portion of the expansive grounds.

Many of the large family tombs in the cemetery have been cemented or bricked shut:

After we left the cemetery, we started walking along the canal, where two swans came right up to us, stuck their heads out for some food, and then pushed off from shore when they realised we didn't have anything to give them.

We took advantage of the canalside Sainsbury's to pick up snacks and a cold drink that we shared as we continued along the path.
